Speaking at Board Meetings

General Information

Meetings are generally held the second and fourth Mondays of the month. As of January 1, 2020, board meetings will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Municipal Auditorium, Pleasant Prairie Village Hall, 9915 39th Avenue, at the southeast corner of Springbrook Road and 39th Avenue. You have the opportunity to speak to the Village Board to express your opinions about Village issues. To help accommodate everyone, please follow these rules:

  • Sign up in person in the Municipal Auditorium on a first come, first serve basis, beginning a half hour before the start of the meeting on the day of the meeting. In fairness to all, you must be present to sign up.

  • Please limit your comments to three minutes and to Village issues. Be clear, concise, and constructive. This is not a forum for personal attacks.

  • If you have prepared a written copy of your statement, or a letter, you may give copies to the Village Clerk when you approach the podium to speak, and the Village Clerk will distribute your written statements as you speak.

  • Please practice your statement ahead of time and keep to the three minute limit. The Village Clerk will time your statement. State your name, your address, and be sure to state what you would like to see done (constructive problem resolution). When the Village Clerk announces to you that your time is up, please conclude your remarks.

  • Citizens may not pool time unless you have the express permission of the Village President. Pooled time may not equal the sum total of the time each individual would have had.

  • Consent Agenda items and any item not scheduled for a public hearing later in the meeting can be addressed in the Citizen Participation section of the meeting, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Village Board reviews Citizen Comments and assures that an appropriate response is given. However, the Board is not permitted, by legal opinion of the Wisconsin Attorney General, to respond during the meeting to citizen requests. If the Board feels a response is needed, you may be asked to return to the podium to clarify what you said or answer questions.

Citizen Comments
(5:00 p.m.)
Sign-up at the podium on the roster beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Citizen Comments allows citizens to speak to the Village Board on any Village issue not scheduled for a public hearing later in the meeting, for a maximum of three minutes. This includes consent agenda items. Citizen Comments begins promptly at 5:00 p.m. and you will be called in the order in which you signed up. You must sign up in person.

We may be unable to accommodate all the people who sign up. In that case, it is up to the Village President to determine how to proceed. You will probably be offered the opportunity to speak after the last public hearing item. Please listen to the Village President's decision on this matter.

Speaking to a Public Hearing Item
Sign-up at the podium on the roster beginning at 4:30 p.m.

You will need to sign up at the podium on the roster established for the hearing of interest to you. Please indicate which agenda item you are addressing. You will be limited to three minutes. The Village President may direct that all citizens that are directly affected by the hearing in question, if it is a neighborhood or a subject that is geographically small, be allowed to speak first, with others to follow.
