PLEASANT PRAIRIE ADDS COOPER ROAD TO 2015 PAVING PROJECTS
On Monday, June 1, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board approved an award of contract for additional 2015 paving in the amount of $172,680.76 to Payne & Dolan of Waukesha. Asphalt on Cooper Road, between 80th and 85th Streets, will be pulverized and relayed, and the road will be shouldered. A portion of the contract, $5,162.66, will also be used to pave a driveway at a sewer lift station located on the north side of the Village, just east of 88th Avenue.
During late February, Village staff solicited bids for road maintenance/paving projects proposed as part of Pleasant Prairie’s 2015 budget. Work was proposed in three main areas: an ultrathin overlay in the Prairie Trails West subdivision; a mill and relay in Green Tree Estates; and an ultrathin overlay in the Country Lane subdivision. Based on 2014 project pricing, the Village had budgeted approximately $988,000 to complete these projects. The Village received two bids for the 2015 projects, and on February 23, accepted the lower of the two bids submitted by Payne & Dolan of Waukesha for $682,256.06.
Since that time, staff has evaluated roads throughout the Village for damage caused over the winter months. Cooper Road between 80th and 85th Street was identified as the Village owned arterial road (a higher capacity thoroughfare) with the greatest need for maintenance. Staff determined that directing a portion of the remaining road budget dollars to the Village arterial that was in the worst condition would impact the greatest amount of traffic.
With the contract approved, staff will now meet with the contractor to establish a schedule for the work to be completed. Once work on Cooper Road begins, one lane is expected to remain open with flaggers directing traffic for safety throughout the duration of the work.
