Race dates have been announced for three major triathlon events in Pleasant Prairie during 2011. Prairie Springs Park and Lake Andrea will host the Pleasant Prairie Adult and Junior Triathlons on June 25 and 26. Prairie Springs Park will also be the host site for the Trek Women Triathlon on July 9 and 10 and the Danskin Women's Triathlon Series on August 20 and 21. During 2010, these three events drew more than 4,000 athletes to the community along with their families and friends. A similar number are expected during 2011.
"Prairie Springs Park and Lake Andrea have become known as a premiere venue for multisport events," explained Carol Willke, Director of Recreation for the Village of Pleasant Prairie. "Once again, we are honored to be a host site for these events. Not only do they provide an inspirational and challenging experience for the athletes and others involved, but they are a great boost for local businesses." The combined estimated economic benefit (economic impact) of these three events for area businesses in 2010 was over $1 million. The races also reach out to the broader community year after year through charitable giving components.
