During 2010, a larger leaf collection vacuum was purchased through the Fleet Internal Service Fund to aid in residential leaf collection. The "GIANT-VAC" was purchased to help Village crews handle the large volume of leaves collected (especially during the fall) with fewer overtime hours. This spring, crews will begin using the new "GIANT-VAC." The added capacity of the new unit will allow for fewer trips to the Village Compost Site to unload collected leaves. It will supplement three other smaller units previously used by Village crews.
Under the Fleet Internal Service Fund, vehicles and equipment used by Public Works, Parks, Engineering, and the four utilities are consolidated under one management system. With this structure, maintenance and replacement costs are factored into a pay-per-use system for each of the participating Village departments. This allows the Village to set money aside for future repair and replacement needs in order to avoid borrowing to purchase equipment.
Spring Residential Leaf Collection is scheduled to begin during the first full week of April. To learn when collection will take place in your neighborhood and how to prepare, please click here.
