During the month of May, a contractor working for the Village of Pleasant Prairie will begin administering preventative treatments to ash trees located on Village property and within Village-owned right-of way. The preventative treatment is intended to prevent the loss of ash trees within the Village due to an invasive wood boring beetle, the Emerald Ash Borer. The measure is being taken, because it is more cost effective to perform preventative treatment than to remove and dispose of trees infested with the beetle. Village residents can expect to see TruGreen Lawncare representatives administering the treatment to ash trees throughout the month.

The Emerald Ash Borer is 100% fatal to native ash trees, regardless of size, age or state of health. An Emerald Ash Borer was found in a state trap at Highways 31 and 50 during August of 2009. Shortly after, an Emerald Ash Borer quarantine was established throughout Kenosha County, making it illegal to remove ash material from the quarantine area. It has been estimated that more than 50 million ash trees are dead or dying throughout the Midwest.

Village of Pleasant Prairie residents have been invited to receive the same bulk treatment rate that the Village will pay for the treatment of ash trees on their own property (outside of the Village right-of-way).
