The Village of Pleasant Prairie today shared an update from the August 24th Village Board meeting.

K-9 Rex Officially Sworn Into Pleasant Prairie Police Department

On Monday, August 24, the Pleasant Prairie Police Department held a swearing-in ceremony for its newest K-9 officer, Rex. Village Clerk Jane Snell delivered the official oath to K-9 Rex, formally welcoming him to the department.

K-9 Rex will serve as a second shift K-9 officer for the department. He is a Dutch Shepherd who was born in Poland and will turn two years old on September 21. He was imported to Canine Deployed in Lafayette, Indiana, where he and K-9 Handler Officer Joshua Girdaukas trained together for approximately three weeks, earning certification while building the bond required for K-9 operations. Rex is certified in narcotics detection, tracking of suspects and missing persons, article location, handler protection and apprehension.

The Police Department’s K-9 program supports a wide range of public safety functions throughout the Village. Officer Girdaukas and K-9 Rex are actively serving the community while continuing to sharpen their skills alongside other local K-9 teams.
