As part of an Eagle Scout project, 17-year old Nick Crass mapped nature trails inside Prairie Springs Park. Crass used a portable GPS system to mark points along the trail system in the park and then placed them into computer software and connected the points. The data was used to create a map of the trail system to help guide those using the trails.
Crass also took time to learn the history of the property that is now Prairie Springs Park. Nick considered the history of the park while selecting proposed names for the nature trails. He incorporated the map of the trail system and the history he collected into a display for trail users. Nick presented the project for Park Commission approval during an early August meeting. Upon receiving approval, four copies of the map, along with the corresponding history and three benches, were installed along the trail system.
A similar Eagle Scout project had been completed by Brian Cooper several years ago, but maps had been damaged due to natural exposure. On the new signs, Crass also recognized Cooper's contribution. The Village would like to thank Nick for his hard work on this project to improve the experience for all who use the trails.
