On Monday, October 26, the Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission considered and approved Site and Operational Plans for two separate projects at We Energies’ Pleasant Prairie Power Plant.
A Site and Operational Plan was approved for the installation of a chemical feed system that will supply a mercury emission control chemical to the plant’s Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization facility. The project is intended to help the plant meet mercury emission reductions in accordance with EPA standards.
A second Site and Operational Plan was approved for the addition of sand filters to a wastewater treatment system at the plant. The filters will help remove total suspended solids from wastewater prior to its discharge into retention basins on the power plant property. The removal of the suspended solids will allow the plant to better manage water levels in the basins.
Work on each of the two projects is expected to begin this November. The chemical feed system project is expected to be complete by late December, while the sand filter project is expected to be complete in early June of 2016.
