CRIME PREVENTION REMINDERS
Following are some crime prevention reminders from the Pleasant Prairie Police Department. These simple steps can go a long way to making your neighborhood a safer place:
• if you see suspicious activity, please call the Pleasant Prairie Police Department at 694.7353;
• get to know your neighbors;
• turn on outdoor lights when it gets dark outside;
• make a routine of double-checking that your garage door and all other doors to your home are closed and locked, even when you're home;
• lock car doors and windows when parking your car for any period of time; and
• don't leave items of value or garage door openers in a parked vehicle.
SEX OFFENDER PLACEMENT
When the State Department of Corrections places a high level sex offender in a residence in a community, they will notify the law enforcement agency in that particular community via a Special Bulletin Notification (SBN). When the Pleasant Prairie Police Department receives a Special Bulletin Notification, the department notifies the public through the following channels:
• A press release is written describing the individual, the general nature of their offense, and the general location of their placement by the Department of Corrections. This press release is then sent to local media to assist in sharing this information with the public. The Kenosha News and local radio stations have been very helpful in sharing this information.
• The press release is also posted to the Village website.
• A link to the press release is also Tweeted via the Pleasant Prairie Police Department Twitter account.
• The same information is also shared with residents and the greater public through Facebook.
Currently, there are a handful locations in Pleasant Prairie where these high level offenders may be placed: the 12100 block of 120th Court; the 12200 block of Sheridan Road; and the 11200 block of Old Green Bay Road.
WHERE TO LEARN MORE
While the Department of Corrections issues a Special Bulletin Notification for high level offenders, these bulletins are not issued to local law enforcement for all offenders. Some options for learning the locations of all offenders (and crime in general) in our community follow:
• This link will take you to the Department of Corrections website where you can enter your home address and email address in order to receive a notification by email when a sex offender registers a home address that is near your address.
• www.familywatchdog.us will take you to another site that will allow you to enter your zip code in order to a view a map that highlights offenders' locations and offers a photo and description.
• www.crimereports.com will take you to another site that will map locations (by zip code) and provide information for both offenders and other types of police calls/response.
Proactively subscribing to alerts available through the links above can help residents remain aware and alert to all that is going on around them. For residents who may not use a computer often, local radio stations, the local newspaper, family, and neighbors are other means of staying informed and aware.
