Work timed to coincide with the 39th Avenue Reconstruction project allowed for the installation of storm water improvements and grading for the area west of 39th Avenue.
This work was completed in preparation for the future development of the Village Green Center. Village Green is a proposed downtown-like area at the demographic center of the Village. Plans call for a mixed-use development blending commercial, civic, and residential uses to serve as a core gathering place for the community.
Public discussion about the Village Center began more than twenty years ago, but population counts in the surrounding areas did not support its development at the time. Since 2004, a private developer has owned a large amount of open space in the Village Green Center.
During 2007 and 2008, two planning cafés were held where public input for the Village Center was gathered. The input was used to develop the sub-neighborhood plan and is still being used to develop more refined guidelines for the appearance of potential future development.
With the housing market and our economy now recovering from recent struggles, renewed planning efforts for the area are taking place to take recent improvements into account. The speed with which Village Green develops will be dependent upon market conditions. Village staff is continuing to work with the private landowner to plan for future growth in this area.
