During a Monday, November 2 meeting, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board adopted a resolution in support of the Transportation Investment Coalition. The resolution calls on the Governor and Legislature to agree upon a sustainable solution, one that includes a responsible level of bonding and adjusts user fees, to fund Wisconsin's transportation system.
"Every month that state and local road repair is deferred, the costs for road maintenance and repair increases for taxpayers," explained Michael Pollocoff, Village Administrator. "Funding for roads in Wisconsin has not kept pace with the need. We are asking the Governor and Legislature to partner with communities to help resolve this matter in a thoughtful, and comprehensive manner for the good of local economies throughout the State."
"The Village has responded to the decreased funding for roads over the past several years by deferring paving projects in residential neighborhoods," added Pollocoff. "We strive to make our community a place where people want to live, work and play. While we are working with our short- and long-term paving plans to stretch our dollars as far as they can go, we need the State to successfully partner with local municipalities to develop a long-term sustainable funding source."
The Village is working with the League of Wisconsin Municipalities to request that the Governor and Legislature agree upon a sustainable transportation solution. The League of Wisconsin Municipalities is part of a broad based Transportation Investment Coalition. The coalition includes road builders, labor, private sector employers, local units of government, chambers, and economic development organizations who rely on the State's transportation system to conduct their operations.
