PLEASANT PRAIRIE TO RE-BID FOR SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL CONTRACT
On Monday, May 18, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board approved a request from the Public Works Department to reject the two proposals received for solid waste disposal services and to seek new proposals for the service. Public Works Director John Steinbrink Jr. explained, “We didn’t receive a comprehensive list of proposals, so in the best interest of the Village ratepayers, we recommended rejecting those received in order to re-solicit proposals from local landfills within 30 miles.”
In April, staff issued a request for proposal (RFP) for the provision of municipal solid waste disposal services through the statewide Vendornet system. The RFP was also advertised in the Kenosha News and sent to seven landfill companies. Two responses were received.
Contracts for solid waste disposal services, general recycling services and electronics recycling will expire at the end of this summer (2015). The Village Board approved a contract with Universal Recycling for electronics recycling on May 18. Proposals for general recycling services will be brought before the Village Board for consideration during early June. Staff expects to present solid waste proposals to the Village Board shortly thereafter, prior to the expiration of their current contract.
