PLEASANT PRAIRIE FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT - AN OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS THEY PERFORM
The Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue Department was first established in 1935 with 68 volunteers and one full-time employee. Eighty years later, the department employs 14 part-time/paid-on-call and 26 full-time employees. During 2014, the department responded to 2,090 emergency calls for service. In addition to responding to emergency calls for service, the department inspects approximately 670 occupancies (commercial/industrial/multi-family/healthcare) two times per year and provides construction plan review and construction inspection for the same types of buildings being built or remodeled in the Village.
The Fire & Rescue Department’s mission is to deliver service, at a reasonable cost, that maintains and improves the health, safety, welfare, and quality of life of the people who live and work in, visit, and travel through our community by providing:
• fire suppression response,
• emergency response (see list below),
• emergency medical response, and
• public education about fire prevention.
Pleasant Prairie’s Fire & Rescue Department participates in ongoing training and is equipped to respond to a variety of emergencies, in addition to fire and medical emergencies. They include:
• hazardous materials emergencies,
• high and low angle rope rescue,
• confined space emergencies,
• trench rescue,
• structural collapse,
• water rescue,
• ice rescue,
• wildland fires, and
• fire investigation.
All members of the department have a base level of training in each of the disciplines listed above, while several members are highly trained and participate on multi-jurisdictional specialty teams that respond to these types of complicated incidents.
