MULTI-USE TRAIL ETIQUETTE
As more trails are developed in the Village, more residents are inquiring as to what types of users are allowed on the trails. The existing Village trails have been designed as multi-use trails, meaning they can be used by pedestrians, cyclists, and various types of skaters.
The main rule of thumb when using a Village trail is to offer the same level of common courtesy to others that you would like to receive in return. Following are some general guidelines that can help make your multi-use trail experience more enjoyable:
• When approaching others on the trail, faster trail users, including runners, skaters and bicyclists, should indicate in a polite way (with “excuse me please”, “passing beside you on the left” or the ding of a bicycle bell) that they are approaching.
• More experienced bicyclists may also consider riding on Terwall Terrace at times when the multi-use trail is busy.
• Slower trail users should offer friendly communication to let the faster user know that it is safe to pass (such as a wave or verbal acknowledgement).
• Faster users should pass others slowly and be prepared to stop if necessary.
• If you wear headphones or are visiting with another, remain aware so that other trail users don’t startle you.
• When on a Village trail, pet owners are required to keep their pets on a leash and clean up after their pet.
Thank you for sharing the trail.
