Phishing Scams

Phishing Scams

The Village of Pleasant Prairie is alerting residents, property owners, and local businesses about a recent surge in phishing scams targeting individuals involved in Pleasant
Prairie permit applications and Village Board or Plan Commission processes.

The fraudulent scheme involves emails that appear to come from Village officials or departments, often displaying Village branding, addresses, and references to legitimate applications or recent public meetings. These emails request wire transfer payments of thousands of dollars for permit or application review fees. In some cases, the messages reference real property addresses or application numbers to appear authentic.

A key warning sign is the request for wire transfer payments. The Village of Pleasant Prairie will never ask for permit or application fees to be paid through email, via wire transfer, or through unofficial channels.

Scammers often use urgent language, demand immediate payment, and threaten delays in application processing. Messages may include attachments resembling official invoices with Village logos and addresses copied from public sources. These emails also direct recipients to respond to an address not associated with the Village. Official Village communications will always come from a @pleasantprairiewi.gov or @plprairie.com email address.

Residents and businesses should:
• Not respond to suspicious emails.
• Avoid clicking links or opening attachments.
• Never provide personal or financial information to an unverified source.
