April 5, 2026, marks the 37th anniversary of the Village of Pleasant Prairie incorporation. Since 1989, the community has experienced steady growth supported by long-term planning and development. At the time of incorporation, the Village had an equalized value of less than $400 million. That value has since increased to more than $6.5 billion.
Recreation and community amenities continue to play a central role in Pleasant Prairie. RecPlex, which opened in 2000, has become a regional destination. Recent visitation data ranked RecPlex among the top four sports venues in Wisconsin, alongside the home stadiums for the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, and Wisconsin Badgers.
The Village also features extensive outdoor resources. These include five public beaches along Lake Michigan, the 930-acre Prairie Springs Park, and the 500-acre Chiwaukee Prairie, which is recognized for its rare coastal prairie and wetlands.
Within Prairie Springs Park, Lake Andrea serves as a central gathering space. Once a working gravel pit, the area has been redeveloped into a key community amenity. Combined, these recreational assets generate more than $10 million in annual economic activity and provide space for residents, visitors, and events.
The progress of the Village is supported by more than 500 full-time and part-time employees across departments. Staff in public safety, public works, engineering, finance, and other service areas contribute to daily operations throughout the 33 square miles of Pleasant Prairie. Ongoing investments in technology, infrastructure, and service delivery support efficient and reliable operations.
Pleasant Prairie also maintains a strong focus on conservation. More than 25 percent of Village land remains in conservancy, preserving natural areas and contributing to the community’s character.
As Pleasant Prairie marks 37 years since incorporation, the Village continues to develop as a place where residents and businesses choose to locate, supported by community planning, public services, and shared spaces.
