Village of Pleasant Prairie Addresses Accidental Issuance of Duplicate Absentee Ballots

The error occurred on Monday, October 26 during the processing and preparation of absentee ballot-by-mail materials. It was discovered that a Village employee inadvertently issued duplicate ballot packets to a limited number of voters. The municipality regrets this error and recognizes the importance of maintaining accurate records, safeguarding election materials and ensuring public confidence in the election process. The employee responsible for the error is no longer employed by the Village.

Upon identifying the issue, election officials began reviewing absentee ballot records to determine the number of affected voters and establish appropriate procedures for handling any duplicate ballot materials received. Duplicate ballots will not be counted. The municipality is cooperating with applicable election authorities and will take all necessary steps consistent with Wisconsin election law.

The Village is taking swift action to ensure a safe election. The municipality is reviewing its ballot issuance and tracking procedures to strengthen safeguards against similar incidents. Corrective measures may include additional verification steps, improved documentation, reconciliation of ballot records and secondary review of ballot issuance procedures.

Voters who believe they received a duplicate absentee ballot or who have questions about their ballot should contact the Village Clerk’s Office directly for official guidance. Voters should not attempt to submit more than one ballot. All ballots will be processed in accordance with applicable Wisconsin election laws and established procedures.
