Posted on 06/18/2021
Early this morning, at 10:18 a.m., the Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue Department was alerted to a possible structure fire at 8440 82nd Avenue. Units responded and arrived at 10:21 a.m. to find no smoke or fire showing from the exterior of the building. The team was directed to the third floor by the 911 caller. Once inside, crews found an active fire in a third floor wall between the hallway and an apartment room.

Fire & Rescue began accessing the fire to extinguish the flame. Crews had the fire under control by 10:45 a.m. Operations continued, and at 11:06 a.m. Fire & Rescue crews reported the fire was completely out. No civilian or fire personnel injuries were reported, and the damage was localized to the hallway and one apartment room.

All evacuated tenants, except for those residing in the fire room, were allowed to return to their apartments. Property management staff immediately started to work on restoration efforts. Fire & Rescue units cleared the scene at 12:26 p.m. The cause of the fire is currently unknown; the Kenosha County Fire Investigation Task Force is conducting an ongoing investigation.

Pleasant Prairie was assisted by mutual-aid departments, including Beach Park (IL), Newport Fire District (IL), Winthrop Harbor (IL), and Zion Fire (IL). In addition, both Bristol (WI) and Salem Lakes Fire (WI) provided a change of quarters apparatus for normal daily call response.
