WIS 32 (Sheridan Road) Project Brief

June 6, 2023

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is preparing to resurface a portion of State Trunk Highway 32 (Sheridan Road) from 91st Street to the Illinois State Line. To facilitate the construction activities, starting on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, a hard closure will be implemented on Sheridan Road between State Trunk Highway 165 (104th Street) and 91st Street. The closure is anticipated to be in effect until fall as crews work to replace the box culvert at Barnes Creek. Throughout the project, access will be maintained for residents, school bus traffic, and emergency vehicles from both the north and south ends of the hard closure area.

As motorists approach the work zone, they are advised to watch for wayfinding signage, carefully follow the instructions provided by the construction crews, and exercise caution while driving in the area. The project primarily entails resurfacing the deteriorated pavement along the three-mile construction zone, replacing the box culvert at Barnes Creek, and installing a new beam guard on Sheridan, north of 111th Street.

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the closure, a detour route has been established by WisDOT. State construction projects utilize other state roads to detour traffic. Motorists traveling north and south are encouraged to detour along State Trunk Highway 158 (52nd Street), State Trunk Highway 31 (Green Bay Road), and State Trunk Highway 165 (104th Street). WisDOT has carefully designed the detour to keep truck traffic off local roads and away from the construction zone, minimizing disruptions and prioritizing public safety.

It is important to note that the projected fall 2023 completion date is contingent upon weather conditions. The road will be reopened if the construction work finishes ahead of schedule. Drivers within the project area are asked to adhere to construction signage and exercise great care, patience, and attentiveness while the necessary road improvements are made.
